Description
Patch Touch: for Oberheim Matrix is a patch editor for the Oberheim Matrix-1000, Matrix-6, and Matrix-6r synthesizers. If you have one of these synths then this is the editor for you! Patch Touch gives you touch-based control over all of the voice parameters on your Matrix. Just make a change on the screen, and the change is instantly sent to your synthesizer.
Patch Touch has been designed to give you access to as much as possible all on a single screen, making it easier to change and understand the structure of your patch.
Here are some more features:
* Copy/Paste envelopes
* Create random patches
* Copy the current patch from your synth to your iOS device, for further editing
* Save your patch from Patch Touch to the memory on your synth!
* Play the synth using the app's built-in mini-keyboard (with aftertouch support)
Use this app either with a MIDI adapter for your iOS device, or via a wireless MIDI connection to your Mac or PC, with your Matrix synthesizer connected to your Mac or PC via MIDI.
Requirements
* An Oberheim Matrix-1000/6/6r synthesizer
* A MIDI adapter for your iOS device, OR a Mac or PC connected to your Matrix via MIDI and a wi-fi connection between your Mac or PC and your iOS device.
NOTE: This app does NOT make any sound! It's just an editor for your Matrix. If you don't have a Matrix synthesizer, this app won't do anything useful for you.
This app is not affiliated with or endorsed by Oberheim.
What’s New
Bug fixes for Matrix 6 and 6r. Negative parameter values are now handled correctly, and program change messages are sent to the synth to keep it in sync with Patch Touch.
Worth it and mandatory.
I've been using Patch Touch for close to a year now. I love the interface and editing capabiliities. This is a mandatory companion for a Matrix 6/6r/1000. Completely avoid frustration in membrane-programming. Patch Touch transfers the entire patch after editing, effectively giving editor access to EVERY parameter, including the non sysex mod matrix!
PLEASE: Add an option not to transfer the entire patch when editing any sysex parameters.. Matrix-6 OS 2.14 has made editing via sysex very fast without lag. Any sysex change gets transfered and then gets overwritten by the entire patch transfer, creating a drop-out.
SMALL WISH: Arpeggiator ability in the mini keyboard
Buggy for the money

Great interface, but it's a little buggy for the money. I stopped using it after a few hours. Sure you can edit on the iPad, but the app has some issues. Back up your patches before using.
Just perfect.
Simple, intuitive and most importantly no bugs. Thank you!

“It’s an identical product with the same features on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac. You can jump back and forth and it automatically synchronizes.” Among Adobe Rush’s core features are integrated color, audio, and motion graphics tools and one-click publishing to social media sites like Facebook and YouTube, with support for native YouTube features like video scheduling and thumbnail selection. Android support will land next year, along with video speed controls and the ability to simultaneously publish videos to multiple platforms. “A new user, from the first time they launch [Premiere Rush], can get a high-quality video in three minutes or less,” said Steve Forde, general manager of emerging products at Adobe, during a media briefing earlier this year. As an owner of a Matrix 6 I have a love-hate relationship with it because of the great sound but terrible interface. Really more love these days, I will get to that in a bit.
I love the sound. Oh man does this synth sound great. Such lush pads and awesome bass. It really is a mean synth. But as many of us know, the interface is an absolute chore to program. The whole thing is a maze of menu diving. You must come at your patches with a game plan. Any spirit of experimentation is murdered by the daunting exercise of navigating through the interface. But you get out of it what you put in. There are very few vintage synths that still sell so cheap these days. And if you are looking for that OBXish tone for cheap you really can't beat the Matrix 6/1000. But you better have a firm foundation in synthesis or this thing will end up being a preset machine or a paperweight.
So what can be done about the shit interface, or total lack of an interface in the case of the Matrix 1000. You can't just hook up a controller because it only responds to cryptic sysex messages. Access released a controller for the Matrix 6 long before they were cranking out any of their Virus synths, but that controller is so rare you would be lucky to even see a listing for one. It was hardly a full featured controller anyway. You could hack a Behringher BCR2000 to transmit the proper sysex to control 32 parameters. Or if you are lucky enough to find a Doepfer Drehbank then you could have 64 knobs. There is also the more modern Kiwi Patch Editor. This one has pretty lights and can quickly switch between settings for a number of older synths. These all work fine for the most commonly use parameters but you still have to menu dive to get to the ModMatrix, which you still can't access in the 1000. The ModMatrix is a seriously important part of the Matrix 6/1000 and can't be overlooked. It's named after that feature after all. This just won't do.
If you want full access to all the things you are gonna have to use a software patch editor. MidiQuest seems to be the most fully featured but is pretty expensive at $250 (almost what I paid for my synth). It has full access to the ModMatrix as well as settings for a ton of other synths and is available for Mac/PC. There is also OB6000 for PC at $30. I like the interface on this one. It lets you draw lines for the ModMatrix connections. Gives it a nice modular sorta feel. And if you are running OSX there is the free Obie Editor. I am PC so I have not messed with this one.
I am currently using an iPad app TB Midi Stuff. There is a editor specifically for the Matrix 1000 that has full ModMatrix support Here. (EDIT: it works with the Matrix 6 but no ModMatrix support as it does not do a full patch dump when changing parameters). If you have an iPad I would highly suggest using it as your patch editor. For me it really beats using a computer app as they seem to make me feel like I am using a Plug-in instrument in a DAW, and I am not so keen on using a mouse to edit my synths.
Oberheim Matrix 1000 Editor
With the controller situation squared away it has really made playing with my Matrix fun. All of the frustration I felt editing my patches just isn't there anymore. I just pull out my iPad and tinker around. With so many modulation options it would really be a shame to ignore them and just use the same old presets over and over.
